New d&d character for a new game! This is Maia, a homebrewed orc sun soul monk, and I love her already. She has to hide her face when traveling, since in the world she’s in, orcs aren’t common and are all treated as monsters. :o Also she can do fire punches. :3
As a note on books: Pirating books hurts the individual authors, not big corps or moneybag CEOs. The vast majority of authors do not make very much money to begin with, and their ability to continue writing books for you to enjoy unfortunately depends on book sale numbers. A lot of publishers have no problem with cancelling a multi-book series midway through or dropping an author entirely because there weren’t enough book sales (because everyone is pirating instead of buying), leaving both the author and the readers in the lurch.
If you want to keep having books made by authors you like, try your best to support them. If you can’t afford to buy a book, see if your local library has it (they do ebooks and audiobooks, too!), because that still helps the authors. :)
(college Textbooks are another matter; fuck that shit.)

Reminders for the Anxious/Depressed Creatives
- You’re more than what you make.
- Your productivity does not determine your value.
- It’s okay to do nothing sometimes.
- Not everything you do has to result in a product.
- Not everything you make has to be important, significant, or even good.
- You can make things just for yourself.
- You can keep secrets for yourself, whether it’s not posting some of your projects or not sharing your techniques.
- You’re allowed to say no.
- You’re allowed to rest.
2023 Updates:
- Inspiration doesn’t cure burnout. Rest cures burnout.
- People will wait for you; take your time and come back when you are ready.
- It’s okay to scrap projects that no longer excite you, even if other people like them.
- It’s delightful and excellent to be openly proud of your work.
- Afford yourself the same gentleness that you would afford another creative - negative self-talk is counterproductive and frankly cruel.
- Self-indulgent creations are satisfying to others as well; don’t apologize for your own pleasure.
- Actually, don’t apologize for your work at all.
yes yes yes yes

Some good news! The AMA is getting on the right side of some important stuff this week:
I’m the first to bring out snide, “gender affirming care is GOOD?!?????” And “the BMI is racist, fatphobic junk science?!???? CALL THE PRESSES!!!!” comments but I’m taking a sec to acknowledge this is actually really, really good.
The AMA is the largest professional association of medical physicians and carries enormous sway and power. We need them to move the needle on this shit, even if it is frustrating they feel years behind.
